New transplant approach could help more sickle cell patients

NCT ID NCT03279094

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new way to do stem cell transplants for people with sickle cell disease. Instead of needing a perfectly matched donor, it uses a half-matched family donor (haploidentical). Before the transplant, patients get two rounds of immune-suppressing therapy to help the body accept the new cells. The goal is to make the transplant safer and available to more patients.
