Blood donors needed to speed up sickle cell drug discovery

Summary

This study collects blood samples from 250 adults with sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait, and healthy volunteers. Researchers will use the samples to test thousands of compounds, including existing FDA-approved drugs, to find new treatments for sickle cell disease. Participants give a small blood sample in one outpatient visit, and some may be asked to return for an extra sample. No treatment or medication is given in this study.
