New drug aims to boost stroke recovery in major trial
NCT ID NCT07241520
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This large Phase 3 trial is testing whether an investigational drug called SHPL-49 can help people recover better after an acute ischemic stroke. About 1,096 participants will receive either the drug or a placebo as an IV infusion twice daily for 7 days, alongside standard care. The main goal is to see if more people achieve functional independence (able to carry out daily activities) 90 days after the stroke.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new treatment option to improve recovery and reduce disability after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but the drug is still experimental. It may not prove more effective than placebo, and there could be unknown side effects.
