New pain block may protect breathing after shoulder surgery
NCT ID NCT05444517
First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested two ways to numb the shoulder for pain relief after arthroscopic surgery. The standard method can sometimes weaken the diaphragm, making breathing harder. The new method combines two different nerve blocks to try to avoid that problem. 50 adults having shoulder surgery took part to see if the new approach works just as well for pain without affecting breathing.
