Scientists use special X-Rays to solve mystery of loose shoulder implants

Summary

This study aims to understand why the socket part of a shoulder replacement sometimes becomes loose over time. Researchers will use special, low-dose X-ray imaging to watch how the shoulder bones move and make contact in 52 people with severe shoulder arthritis, both before and after they get a joint replacement. The goal is to gather knowledge that could help improve future implant designs and surgical techniques to make replacements last longer.
