Breast cancer trial slashes radiation time from weeks to days

NCT ID NCT02212860

Summary

This trial tested a new, shorter way to deliver radiation before breast cancer surgery. For early-stage breast cancer, standard radiation after surgery takes 5-6 weeks. This study compared giving just 1 dose versus 3 doses of targeted radiation *before* surgery to see if it could prevent the cancer from returning and eliminate the need for the longer standard course. It also looked at side effects, patient satisfaction, and how the treatment affects the body's immune response.
