New surgery aims to fix swallowing problem with fewer side effects

NCT ID NCT07325071

Summary

This study tests if a shorter surgical tunnel during a procedure called POEM works as well as the standard, longer tunnel for people with type II achalasia, a swallowing disorder. The main goal is to see if the shorter technique reduces the common side effect of acid reflux after surgery. Researchers will compare symptom relief, procedure time, and quality of life between the two approaches.
