Heart patients may need only 1 month of blood thinners after stents, major trial finds

NCT ID NCT03971500

First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study compares taking blood thinners for 1 month versus 12 months after getting a heart stent, in people who had a recent heart attack or unstable angina. About 3,700 participants are randomly assigned to either short or long treatment, and doctors also use ultrasound or X-ray to guide stent placement. The goal is to see if shorter therapy reduces bleeding risks without increasing heart problems.
