Study tests halving antibiotic time for tough hospital bug

NCT ID NCT03477292

Summary

This study aimed to see if a shorter, 7-day course of antibiotics works as well as the standard 14-day course for treating a specific, hard-to-treat pneumonia that patients can get while on a breathing machine in the hospital. It involved 41 adult ICU patients with this drug-resistant infection. The goal was to find out if the shorter treatment could reduce antibiotic side effects and the risk of creating more drug-resistant bacteria without harming patients.
