New shot aims to stop debilitating shingles pain

NCT ID NCT07344246

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a long-acting steroid injection (dexamethasone palmitate) to standard shingles treatment provides better pain relief. Researchers will compare different ways of giving the injection—into a muscle, a vein, or directly near the painful nerves—in about 558 adults with severe shingles pain that started within the last 90 days. The main goal is to see if this approach reduces pain more effectively and helps prevent the pain from becoming long-lasting.
