Less gas, same safety: new anesthesia method cuts drug use in kidney stone surgery
NCT ID NCT07248917
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested two ways of giving anesthesia gas (sevoflurane) during kidney stone surgery. One method used a very low gas flow (minimal-flow), the other a slightly higher flow (low-flow). In 62 adults, the minimal-flow approach used less anesthesia drug while keeping patients safely asleep and stable. The findings suggest minimal-flow anesthesia is a safe, cost-saving, and eco-friendly option.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
sevoflurane
What this could lead to
If confirmed, minimal-flow anesthesia could become standard practice, reducing drug costs and environmental impact without compromising patient safety.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 62 patients. Results may not apply to other surgeries or patients with health issues. The study does not test long-term outcomes.
