First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests different doses of steroids for people in the ICU with severe pneumonia caused by adenovirus or Pneumocystis jirovecii. The goal is to see if steroids can reduce the high death rate (25-50%) by calming the body's overactive immune response. About 1,500 adults will be randomly assigned to one of two steroid doses or standard care, and the main outcome is survival at 28 days.
