New hope for severe alcoholic hepatitis: extended treatment trial launches

Summary

This study tests whether giving steroids for longer or adding N-acetylcysteine can help people with severe alcoholic hepatitis live longer and have better liver function. About 477 adults with severe liver inflammation from heavy drinking will be enrolled. The goal is to see if these treatments reduce deaths and liver damage by day 90.
