Major trial aims to solve sepsis steroid puzzle: who gets saved?
NCT ID NCT04280497
Summary
This large study aims to determine which intensive care unit (ICU) patients with sepsis might benefit from a 7-day course of steroid medications (hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone) compared to a placebo. It will enroll 1800 adults to see if specific biological markers can identify patients most likely to improve—with fewer deaths or less persistent organ failure—and those who might be harmed by the treatment. The goal is to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to better target this common but controversial therapy.
