Heart-Lung link may predict sepsis death risk

NCT ID NCT06887140

First seen May 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple heart ultrasound measurement (TAPSE/sPAP ratio) can help predict which sepsis patients are at higher risk of dying in the hospital. Researchers will follow 215 adults with sepsis in the ICU, measuring this heart-lung coupling and tracking outcomes like death, time on a breathing machine, and length of hospital stay. The goal is to better understand how the right side of the heart handles the stress of sepsis.
