Retraining the senses to fight chemotherapy nerve damage
NCT ID NCT06724861
First seen Sep 04, 2026 · Last updated Sep 04, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a type of physical therapy called explicit sensory retraining can reduce nerve pain and improve balance in people who have chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Participants receive either three weekly sessions of sensory retraining for the legs and feet or usual care, then switch after a period. Researchers measure changes in neuropathy symptoms, pain, and mobility using standard tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Explicit sensory retraining for the lower extremities
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to reduce nerve pain and improve balance and mobility in people living with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early-stage trial with only 27 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The training involves only three sessions, which may be too brief to produce lasting change.
