Rewiring the senses: new hope for kids with cerebral palsy?
NCT ID NCT07278635
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed study tested whether adding sensory integration therapy to standard balance exercises could improve balance, thinking, and independence in 22 children with cerebral palsy aged 6 to 10. Participants were randomly assigned to 12 weeks of balance exercises alone or combined with sensory integration therapy. Researchers measured changes in balance, functional mobility, and cognitive performance before and after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Sensory integration therapy (behavioural intervention)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better rehabilitation approach for children with cerebral palsy, improving their balance, thinking skills, and daily independence.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 22 participants. Results may not apply to all children with cerebral palsy, and the therapy may show no meaningful benefit over standard exercises.
