Speeding up breast cancer screening: can AI help radiologists skip normal cases?
NCT ID NCT05960188
First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested whether radiologists can quickly decide a breast cancer screening is normal by looking only at a 2D mammogram, without needing 3D images. Sixteen radiologists viewed cases for up to five seconds and rated their confidence. They also saw an AI opinion and said if they'd trust the AI to make the call alone. The goal is to speed up screening without missing cancers.
