First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looked at how different types of self-talk—motivational (like 'I can do this') and instructional (like 'keep your eye on the ball')—affect soccer forwards' performance and stress. Thirty-six male college players were split into groups and practiced self-talk for six weeks. Researchers measured their shooting accuracy, game performance, and stress levels to see which type of self-talk works best.
