Deeper swab may catch anal cancer earlier

NCT ID NCT07085845

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether a deeper self-swab (5 cm) collects better cell samples for anal cancer screening than a shallower one (3 cm). Fifty adults at higher risk for anal cancer tried both depths. The goal was to see which method better captures cells from the area most likely to turn cancerous, while still being comfortable for users.
