NCT ID NCT06560918
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a new training program called SEBAR can improve confidence and success with over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. Twenty-seven adults with mild-to-moderate hearing loss who have never used hearing aids will wear OTC devices for a week and answer questions about their experience. Researchers will compare results with and without the hearing aids to see if the training helps people feel more confident and satisfied.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

over-the-counter hearing aids and a self-efficacy-based auditory rehabilitation program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple training method to help people get more benefit from over-the-counter hearing aids.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 27 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The training is brief (one week), and long-term benefits are unknown.
