Race against time: finding the best drug to stop newborn seizures

NCT ID NCT07284498

Summary

This study aims to find out which of two common seizure medications works better and is safer for newborns who have seizures due to brain injury from lack of oxygen during birth (HIE). It will compare phenobarbital against two different doses of a newer drug called levetiracetam. The goal is to control the seizures quickly to prevent further brain damage and see which medicine causes fewer side effects for the baby's heart, breathing, and other organs.
