Scientists test sedatives to unlock Smoking's brain secrets
NCT ID NCT05505630
Summary
This small, early-stage study aimed to understand how different sedative medications affect cigarette cravings and smoking behavior. Researchers gave 20 daily smokers intravenous infusions of ketamine, midazolam, dexmedetomidine, or a placebo saline solution. They measured changes in cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and actual smoking behavior before and after each infusion to learn how these drugs interact with smoking-related brain pathways.
