First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at how different sedatives (ketamine, midazolam, dexmedetomidine, or a placebo) affect cigarette cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and smoking behavior in 20 daily smokers. Participants received one dose intravenously, and researchers measured their cravings and number of cigarettes smoked. The goal was to understand the brain's role in tobacco use, not to test a new treatment.
