Heart surgery ICU sedation under the microscope: new study watches without interfering

NCT ID NCT07350109

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study watches how deeply heart surgery patients are sedated in the ICU using a brain activity monitor (BIS). The care team won't see the readings, so they treat patients as usual. Researchers will track 50 patients for 48 hours to see how often deep sedation happens and if it affects recovery, like time on a breathing machine or infections. The goal is to learn how to improve sedation care without changing current practices.
