Blood tests may reveal why some pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors resist Second-Line treatment
NCT ID NCT07835893
First seen Sep 23, 2026 · Last updated Sep 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers are studying adults with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors that have spread to the liver and stopped responding to first-line treatment. Participants receive either lenvatinib plus chemotherapy or chemotherapy alone, based on their care plan. The team tracks tumor response, survival, and side effects, and analyzes blood samples for clues about why some tumors resist treatment. The goal is to find markers that predict who benefits from which second-line approach.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- lenvatinib combined with chemotherapy
- What this could lead to
- If the combination works better than chemotherapy alone, it could offer a stronger second-line option for people whose pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors have spread to the liver. Blood markers identified in the study might one day help doctors pick the right treatment sooner.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage study of 80 people at one hospital, so results may not hold in a larger, more varied group. Lenvatinib and chemotherapy can cause side effects, and the blood markers may not reliably predict who responds.

Inclusion Criteria: * Inclusion Criteria: * Age 18 to 75 years. * Histologically or cytologically confirmed pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. * Radiologically confirmed liver metastases. * Disease progression or treatment failure after first-line systemic therapy, with eligibility for second-line treatment. * At least one measurable lesion according to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1. * Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status of 0 or 1. * Adequate hematologic, hepatic, and renal function as assessed by the investigator. * Life expectancy of at least 12 weeks. * Ability to understand and willingness to sign a written informed consent form. Exclusion Criteria: * Poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma or neuroendocrine tumor originating from a site other than the pancreas. * Previous treatment with lenvatinib. * Uncontrolled or clinically significant cardiovascular disease, including uncontrolled hypertension. * Active severe infection or other uncontrolled serious systemic disease. * Known central nervous system metastases that are symptomatic or uncontrolled. * Pregnancy or breastfeeding. * Participation in another interventional clinical study that may interfere with the outcomes of this study. * Any other condition that, in the opinion of the investigator, may make the participant unsuitable for participation in this study.
