Laser showdown: which treatment best zaps sebaceous bumps?

NCT ID NCT04429607

First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026

Summary

This study tests three different treatments for sebaceous hyperplasia—small, benign bumps on the skin. Participants receive either a combination of pulsed dye laser and Nd:YAG laser, an erbium:YAG laser, or a procedure called electrodesiccation and curettage. Each bump is treated twice, and researchers measure changes in size and number of bumps after 4 to 12 weeks. The goal is to find out which approach works best.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could identify the most effective laser or procedure for removing or shrinking sebaceous hyperplasia lesions with minimal side effects.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 18 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Treatments may cause scarring or incomplete removal.
