Could your surroundings trigger a hidden genetic risk?
NCT ID NCT04481152
First seen Jul 08, 2026 · Last updated Jul 09, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates whether environmental and occupational exposures influence the risk of developing tumors in people who carry an SDHx gene mutation. Researchers will compare two groups of mutation carriers: those who have had a tumor and those who have not. The goal is to test the feasibility of a larger study that could one day help identify modifiable risk factors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this pilot could pave the way for a larger study that identifies environmental triggers for tumors in SDHx mutation carriers, potentially leading to prevention advice.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot feasibility study, not designed to prove cause and effect. It may not yield clear answers about environmental risks.
