Scientists test shorter antibiotic courses for tropical fever

NCT ID NCT03083197

Summary

This study aims to find the best oral antibiotic treatment for scrub typhus, a bacterial infection spread by mites. Researchers are comparing three different regimens—two using doxycycline for different lengths of time and one using azithromycin—in 177 hospitalized patients. The goal is to see which treatment clears fever fastest and works best, especially in areas where the bacteria might be resistant to common drugs.
