New nurse screening aims to catch hidden brain development issues in heart kids

NCT ID NCT06431269

Summary

This study is testing whether a specialized nurse can effectively screen for brain development issues in young children (ages 1-5) who were born with heart defects. Many of these children are at high risk for these issues, but there aren't enough specialists to check everyone. The nurse will use simple questionnaires during regular heart checkups. If a problem is suspected, the child will be referred to a specialist for a full evaluation and support plan.
