Ultrasound could predict who fails breathing tube removal
NCT ID NCT07343882
First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a special ultrasound technique (VExUS) can predict if a patient on a breathing machine will have trouble when doctors try to remove the tube. About 350 ICU adults will have an ultrasound before a breathing trial. The goal is to see if fluid buildup in veins raises the risk of failure. The study is observational and offers no direct benefit, but may help future patients.
