Blood swap trial aims to cut sickle cell emergencies

Summary
This Phase 3 study tests whether adding automated red blood cell exchange to usual care reduces hospital visits and deaths in adults with sickle cell disease who are at high risk. About 173 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care alone or standard care plus regular blood exchanges over 13 months. The goal is to see if this approach lowers the number of severe sickle cell episodes requiring emergency care.
