Sandblasting teeth before gluing retainers cuts breakage in half?
NCT ID NCT03954145
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study tested whether sandblasting the teeth before gluing a permanent retainer (a wire behind the lower front teeth) works better than the usual pumice polishing. 88 people aged 11 and older who just finished braces took part. The goal was to see if sandblasting reduces the chance of the retainer coming loose, which can cause teeth to shift and lead to extra dental visits.
