Could a simple saliva test predict lung injury outcomes in kids?

NCT ID NCT07380373

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring certain proteins (IL-6 and TNF-α) in saliva can give the same information as measuring them in fluid from the lungs in children with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The goal is to see if a less invasive saliva test can help predict how severe the disease is and what the outcome might be. About 37 children on breathing machines will provide both saliva and lung fluid samples for comparison.
