Spit test could reveal gum disease secrets

NCT ID NCT07262606

Summary

This study aims to see if a protein found in saliva, called Mitofusin-1, is linked to how severe gum disease is and how well treatment works. Researchers will collect saliva and examine the gums of 104 people, including healthy individuals and those with mild to severe gum disease, some of whom smoke. After standard gum treatment, they will check if the protein levels change to see if it could be a useful marker for dentists.
