Race to stop newborn breathing crisis

NCT ID NCT05527704

Summary

This large trial is testing whether a common inhaled asthma medication (salbutamol) can prevent a serious lung pressure complication in newborns with a common rapid breathing disorder called TTN. The study involves 608 premature and full-term babies in Poland who receive either the medication or a placebo through a nebulizer along with standard breathing support. The main goal is to see if the treatment reduces the development of persistent pulmonary hypertension, a dangerous condition where the baby's lungs struggle to get enough oxygen.
