Eye fluid test could spot dry AMD changes early

NCT ID NCT07298291

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether taking a tiny sample of fluid from the front of the eye is safe for people with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Researchers will analyze proteins in the fluid to see if they change over time. The study includes 50 adults aged 50 to 89, some with dry AMD and some without. The goal is to see if this simple procedure can help monitor the disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

anterior chamber paracentesis (ACP)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a safer, routine diagnostic test to monitor dry AMD progression using eye fluid proteins.

What could go wrong

This is a very early safety study with only 50 participants, so it may not confirm the test's usefulness. There is a small risk of eye infection or bleeding from the procedure.
