First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study is checking if a blood test for a protein called S100B can tell doctors whether a person with a head injury has a brain injury or not. The test is very good at ruling out brain injury, which could help avoid unnecessary CT scans and shorten emergency room visits. About 1,000 people of all ages who come to the ER with a head injury within the last 6 hours will give a blood sample, and their care will be the same as usual.
