New hope for blood cancer patients: major trial tests ruxolitinib against standard care

Summary

This study tests whether ruxolitinib works better than current standard treatments (hydroxycarbamide or interferon) for people with high-risk polycythemia vera, a blood cancer that increases red blood cells. About 586 adults with high-risk disease will be randomly assigned to ruxolitinib or the best available standard therapy. The goal is to see which approach better prevents serious events like blood clots, bleeding, or disease progression.
