Scientists infect volunteers with common cold virus to unlock secrets

NCT ID NCT02484417

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the human body responds to Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a common virus that can cause serious illness in children and the elderly. Researchers intentionally gave a small dose of RSV to 32 healthy adult volunteers and monitored them closely in a hospital isolation unit. The goal was to gather information to help develop and test future vaccines or treatments for RSV, not to treat the volunteers.
