First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether ropivacaine, a numbing medicine, can reduce pain and nausea after laparoscopic gallbladder removal. The goal was to help patients recover faster and go home the same day. 120 adults scheduled for surgery took part. The main focus was on how long it took for patients to be ready for discharge.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ropivacaine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could make same-day gallbladder surgery more common by reducing pain and nausea.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed Phase 4 study. Ropivacaine is already used, but its benefit for same-day discharge is not proven. Results may not apply to all patients.
