Robots take on knee surgery: a new trial for PCL fractures

NCT ID NCT07575256

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares robot-assisted arthroscopic surgery to standard open surgery for fixing a type of knee fracture called a PCL avulsion. The goal is to see if the robot helps the bone heal more accurately and improves long-term knee function. The trial will enroll 22 adults with recent fractures and follow them after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Robot-assisted arthroscopic surgery

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that robot-assisted surgery leads to more precise bone alignment and better knee function recovery after a PCL avulsion fracture.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study with only 22 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The robot may not improve outcomes enough to justify its cost or complexity.
