Early test: can cancer drug shrink tumors before prostate surgery?

NCT ID NCT01804712

Summary

This small, early-stage study tested whether giving the drug rituximab before prostate removal surgery could reduce certain immune cells inside prostate tumors. Eight men with high-risk prostate cancer received four weekly doses of rituximab before their scheduled surgery. Researchers compared tumor samples taken before and after treatment to see if the drug changed the tumor's immune environment.
