NCT ID NCT07665073

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two approved antipsychotic drugs, risperidone and cariprazine, in 50 adults with bipolar 1 disorder experiencing acute mania. Participants take one of the drugs for 6 weeks, and doctors measure how well symptoms improve using a standard mania rating scale. The goal is to see which drug works better and has fewer side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Risperidone and Cariprazine (antipsychotic drugs)

What this could lead to

If this trial shows one drug works better or has fewer side effects, it could help doctors choose the best treatment for manic episodes in bipolar disorder.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage comparison with only 50 people. Results may not apply to everyone, and both drugs already have known side effects like drowsiness or weight gain.
