Arm cuff therapy may boost Brain's backup blood vessels in stroke survivors

NCT ID NCT06170944

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether repeatedly inflating a blood pressure cuff on the arm (remote ischemic preconditioning) can help grow new blood vessels around blocked arteries in the brain. About 300 stroke survivors with narrowed or blocked neck arteries will receive either the cuff treatment or a sham procedure for 12 months. The goal is to see if this simple, non-invasive approach improves collateral circulation and reduces the risk of another stroke.
