C-Section babies get a microbial boost from Mom's vaginal swab
NCT ID NCT02567071
First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026
Summary
This study tested a simple idea: after a planned C-section, can wiping a newborn with a swab containing their mother's vaginal fluids help restore the healthy gut bacteria they would normally get during a vaginal birth? Researchers enrolled 33 mothers and their babies. The goal was to see if this method could improve the diversity of the baby's gut microbes, which may support better health later on.
