Summary

This study tracks respiratory infections in thousands of patients across China to build a better early warning system. Researchers collect routine medical data and samples to identify which germs are circulating and how the body responds. The goal is to help hospitals and health officials respond faster to outbreaks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve early detection and control of respiratory outbreaks, helping to prevent future pandemics.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, so it does not test a treatment. Results may not lead to immediate changes in practice.
