Should doctors go after stubborn small clots after a stroke? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07533253
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at stroke patients who have small clots remaining in smaller brain arteries after the main clot has been removed. Half will get an extra procedure to remove those leftover clots, while the other half will receive standard care without extra intervention. The goal is to see if the extra procedure is safe and leads to better recovery. About 72 participants will be followed for 90 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- mechanical thrombectomy procedure
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that removing leftover small clots after the main clot is removed improves recovery and reduces disability after a stroke.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The extra procedure also carries risks like bleeding or vessel damage.
