New combo treatment aims to boost stroke recovery
NCT ID NCT04667078
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding a fast-acting blood thinner (cangrelor) to standard clot removal improves recovery in people with a severe stroke. About 368 adults with a large artery blockage in the brain will receive either cangrelor plus the procedure or the procedure alone. The main goal is to see if more patients have a good functional outcome (less disability) three months later.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Cangrelor (a blood thinner given by IV)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could improve recovery and reduce disability after a severe stroke.
- What could go wrong
- This is a Phase 3 trial, but results are not guaranteed. Adding a blood thinner may increase bleeding risk, and the benefit may be small or absent.
