Could a blood pressure cuff save Babies' lives? new trial tests simple treatment for devastating bowel disease

NCT ID NCT05279664

Summary

This study is testing if a simple, non-invasive procedure called remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) can help treat a serious intestinal disease in newborns called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). The procedure involves inflating and deflating a blood pressure cuff on the baby's arm, which may protect the damaged bowel. This Phase 2 trial is enrolling 78 premature babies with early-stage NEC to see if a larger, definitive study is possible.
